What follows are reviews of books that I have read.
Mrs. Armstrong

The Emerald Atlas

"A snowy winter's night, three small children are chased from their home by the forces of a merciless darkness.  Ten years later, Kate, Emma and Michael are no closer to the truth about what separated their family. "
This book tells about Kate's journey to keep the promise she made to her mother to take care of her brother and sister.  Along the way they meet the mysterious by friendly Dr. Prym and Gabriel who, Emma bonds with.  It is full of adventure.  Michael meets real dwarfs. There is a evil sorceress that they have to defeat.  I completely enjoyed reading this book that is a fantasy/mystery.

Below is a link to a book trailer and more information about this book and the other two in the series.

Because of Mr. Terupt

This is an amazing book about one teacher and what seven kids learn from him.  You will laugh and cry and think about this book long after it is over.
Here is a book trailer to give you an idea what it is like:

The Unwanteds

he Unwanteds is an amazing book about Quill where they sort 13 year-olds each year into Wanteds (strong and intelligent), Necessaries that do the jobs in the country and the Unwanted which are sent to the Death Farm.  When Alex, the main character, and the other Unwanteds face the Eliminators he discovers that an magician named Mr. Today has a hidden world Arteme where they can explore their creativity and learn spells to use art to battle their enemies.  I love this book!

A Tangle of Knots

Everyone has a Talent in this story.  One girl keeps searching for hers.  One man is stealing Talents from people.  One girl has a talent for baking the perfect cake for you.  There are yummy cake recipes in the book.  In the end everyone discovers something important about themselves.

Click on the picture of the book to be taken to Lisa Graff's page about her book.  I couldn't find a book trailer for it, but there is a video of someone making one of the cakes from the book on her website.

The Apothecary

It's 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. Here, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and his son, Benjamin Burrows - a fascinating boy who's not afraid to stand up to authority and dreams of becoming a spy. When Benjamin's father is kidnapped, Janie and Benjamin must uncover the secrets of the apothecary's sacred book, the Pharmacopoeia, in order to find him, all while keeping it out of the hands of their enemies - Russian spies in possession of nuclear weapons. Discovering and testing potions they never believed could exist, Janie and Benjamin embark on a dangerous race to save the apothecary and prevent impending disaster.    Click here to view a book trailer.        The sequel is The Apprentices and it is really good too!

I survived... the San Francisco Earthquake

This is a great book full of adventure.  I liked the boys that were the main characters.  I  worried that they would be hit by falling debris.   Here is a link to a youtube video about I survived the Shark Attacks of 1916 . Click on the title and it will take you there.
