Homework

  Homework

Read:
•    Students need to read at least 5 nights per week for 25 minutes.
•    Record the minutes you read in your Reading Record. Turn in your Reading Record every Wednesday. It will be returned to you in your Thursday Folder. Each student who reads at least 1,000 minutes in their Reading Record by November 15, will be invited to a very special Literary Luncheon on Thursday, November 21.
•    Occasionally there will be a specific reading assignment, otherwise, students may choose an Accelerated Reading book at their appropriate reading level. (Students will be able to take an AR comprehension quiz on the computer, and rack up some exciting points!) Each student will have an Accelerated goal which they are striving to achieve by the end of the trimester.

Math:
•    Students will receive math homework Monday – Thursday. This should be returned to school the following day. If your child is having difficulty with a concept, please write me a note on the homework. (Practice difficult concepts often – you can write some problems for them on the back of their homework. Repetition of a concept does wonders.)
Practice math facts every day for 5 - 10 minutes!!!

Spelling:
•    Students will receive a spelling list each Monday.
Test will be given on Friday.
There will be no Spelling Test on four day weeks.

•    Students are required to complete two spelling activities each week that there is a spelling test. These activities are on the back of their spelling list. Spelling homework is due on, or before, the day of the test.

Book Reports:
•   Paper Bag Reports due the week of September 30. Practice your speech at home. Use your props to summarize the story.

Two for Tuesday:
•    Students will be given an additional homework assignment each Tuesday. Consisting of cursive practice, grammar, or multiplication.

SHOW OFF YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!!:
•    When we learn something super interesting at school, your child will come home to teach you about it!!!

Developing good homework/study habits will help your child become  a
successful student now and in the future.
